Have you heard about the FTR Challenge “Find, Train and Retain!” Every sector of economic activity is actively involved. The media regularly provides updates on this topic. For example, in early September Radio-Canada Témiscamingue reported that the McDonald’s restaurant in downtown Val-d’Or had to temporarily close its doors for lack of employees. Who would have thought that McDonald’s would one day run short of students to fill its work shifts?

I’ve just returned from the family trip that inspired this editorial. Destination? The western part of Honshu Island, Japan. A completely exotic change of scenery! The language was certainly different, but their eating habits were just as strange to us: cold fish and miso soup at 7 am is certainly unusual. Not to mention Japanese washrooms; but that’s a whole other story.

Have you ever noticed that people usually have two distinct attitudes when undertaking big or small projects?  One, is being finished before even starting, which is the attitude of people who are a tad impatient and see themselves with the finished project before it has even begun.  This type of person needs quick, solid results.  And thus, I’ve just painted the perfect picture of my mom.  She is so impatient that she needs a special clock to slow her down; otherwise she would already be in 2020!

What do you think about the following three affirmations? “Future events become past as soon as they are realized (for example, next month I will talk about the calvings that will happen next week, in the past tense).
